Quiet Sub

Just bought a Yamaha YSP 1000 to go with the Pio 506XDE (brag brag) and now I need a little sub to finish off.

I live in a block of flats so I can't ever turn the volume right up. More than volume I need bass clarity, and more than clarity I need to know I can afford it now that I'm officially broke (see above).

Any suggestions? Btw using the AV equipment almost exclusively for Video output.

BK Gemini for £200 is one option.

Trying to look it up at the moment.

HiFi confidential have the Yamaha - YSTFSW100 on their site. It's about the right price. I certainly wouldn't be wanting to spend more than £120.

Was thinking around that price and size.

Yamaha subs don't get much positive comment on this forum (nor anywhere else from what I've seen). If budget is all you have yor answer. If you want quality then BK is a better bet.

I used to have an SW90 (for about 7 years). I thought it was a great sub but I hadn't really heard anything else. Now I have, I can see the shortcomings but now I am comparing it to subs that cost 5 - 10 times more so they are going to be a lot better.

I am not really sure what is available at this price level but the best bet is to go into a showroom and demo some. It's the only way to be sure.

I should have added I used it in a flat with a wooden floor and I only had one complaint from my neighbors below and I had it cranked up thinking they were out

Don't bother with a cheap sub.
Get a buttkicker bolted to your sofa.

Your neighbours shouldn't notice the effects.

They really are good fun and make lfe feel as powerful as a 1kw active sub......

You can pick up immaculate condition MJ Acoustics Reference 50 or 100 downfiring subs on eBay for about £180ish.

BTW a downfirer in a flat might make you unpopular! Maybe best to consider a front firer
