dvi-i or dvi-d output?

Help, please!

I've just ordered an Asus AGP EN6200TD graphics card. However the primary reason for buying a new card is to watch HD. I've just checked the Asus site and it says it is dvi-i.

Does a graphics card need to be dvi-d to output HD?

A quick reply would be appreciated as I need to cancel my order if it's not the right one!

Many thanks

DVI-I contains DVI-D and analog VGA in the same connector. DVI-D is simply digital only. It should work just fine.

Brill, so dvi-i is actually better than dvi-d?

Not really.

DVD-I simply combines an analog video feed and a digital one. On graphics cards it's done for end-user flexibility in that it allows someone with only analog displays to use 2 at once, they do this to save space otherwise they'd need 2 VGA and 2 DVI-D connectors on the backplate, which would be more expensive even if there was roon (which there isn't).

So it's a convenience, there is no qualitative difference. It's 'better' if you like as it gives more options I guess.
