Is it ok to have a joint in cable for Sky

I am soon to move to a new flat. The builder has installed the coax and it is coming out of the wall about 18ins. He says he is going to terminate this with a dedicated wall socket. Now i always thought that you should avoid joints in digital cable, and that it should be one piece between dish and receiver. Am i correct, or will this be ok?

Ray it all depends, what type of cable and what its to used for?

If its coax (or any) type for thay matter avoid a wall plate, you can get screened ,unscreened, diplexed and triplexed!

Its much better to use a normal blank plate with a right angle f connector to terminate it.

You can buy specialist plates for loftbox fitting etc which combine signals and are fine, as this is one cable use a blank face plate for low loss in signal.

Thanks Bobsplace. Are you saying it is possible to have a wall socket if it's the right type? What's a right a right angled F connector? Any way the builder says its plate specifically for satellite connections so it may be ok.

I run mine through the house into UHF wall sockets.
No problems at all, the cable is even joined in the loft by twisting together.
And I couldn't get hold of foil screened sat coax, so I mostly used normal UHF coax.
