Netgear DIGITAL HOME - SC101

I'm interested in these NAS storage gadgets, I have looked at one made by Buffalo and another by Lacie but they are too expensive, then I saw this new Netgear DIGITAL HOME - SC101, it takes one or two hard disks and can be used on a network.

The thing I'm not sure about is whether it can be used without a PC switched on and also can it be accessed across the web via FTP like the more expensive gadgets can, anyone seen these or got one?

I haven't got one as I changed my mind. I read that they -

It get's hot.

Uses it's own formatting rather than windows. You cannot put a formatted HD in.

It is rather slow as it is only 100mb/s (less than quarter speed of USB 2.0).

I have quite a few of the 300GB FW drives and they are very good

I also like the Buffalo HD-H120LAN-1 linkstation, it can be used as an FTP server, or at least I think so.
Thats my next question, whe they say FTP I'm hoping that I'd be able to access it from work using an FTP client app?
