USB Connectors

Im installing a card reader / usb 3.5" adapter plate in the front of my LC16M and the usb connectors that come out of it are confusing me slightly. It has the usual 5v, USB+, USB- and ground wires, but it also has a 5th black wire marked "shell", any ideas where this goes?

Cheers

Barry

If you look on the internal connectors you'll find on most motherboards they'll have 9 pins

:::.

That one on its own is for the one marked shell

I'm confused too... does one set of 9 pins on the motherboard drive two front usb ports?

Yes.

Some boards have the pins in a different order though!

Thankyou! I think I get it now... I have 9 pins coming from the front ports, and 18 pins on the motherboard.. two sets of 9.. I will just use one of them
