Have you just been watching fith gear stuart? they did a test on sat navs and the new tom tom 1 was the winner taking over from the tom tom300 and 30 quid cheaper. looks good to me.

Stuart,
Just recently bought one for the wife.Initial impressions are that's it a great little unit.My wife has used it and remarks on its intuitive menu system which makes it a breeze to use.Battery life around 3 hours give or take.

Its not as bulky as the Go 300 and with the latest sirfstar chipset an improvement to the go series. Tracking of satelites is very quick, I havent yet lost a signal, even in the built up areas in the centre of Birmingham. It even locks onto satelites in my lounge !

Overall, an easy to use out of box solution and with the added bonus of being able to download the Uk database of speed cameras.

Hope that helps.

Is battery life an issue? Wouldn't you have it plugged into your car somehow?

i bought one the other day from Carphonewhorehouse. I think it is much nicer than the Go 300 and it picked up a full bar sat signal literally as it was turned on. not used it on battery as have it plugged into lighter socket.

Just need to update to the latest version of the software and still all the speed camera stuff on.

Got mine for £200 with a £20 voucher i had but normal price is £219. This place and Pcworld are the cheapest to get them from at present. everywhere else seems to be charging the original price.

overall very impressed and well pleased with it.

Have none of you considered the Garmin nuvi 300 ?

I got one last week and have written a review of it in the motoring forums.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2243167&postcount=22

IMO it's the bees knees! apart from possibly needing the mobile phone bluetooth connectivity of the TomTom I really don't see how it could be any better than the nuvi, and the TomTom 700 costs £100 more:eek:

Why does no-one seem interested in the nuvi? why do people think it's better? is it just that the nuvi is very new and less known? I don't understand:confused:

I don't work for garmin or anything, I just feel people should be made aware of other options!

this (http://www.find-tomtom-deals.co.uk/?gclid=CKrsksGM0IECFRJRQgod4kr5mg) seems to be quite good at finding TomTom deals with the cheapest TomTom 1 being shown at £219.00

I'm still undecided as I don't need one but I do like gadgets

Wasn't the nuvi one of the items reviewed on Fifth Gear?
If it is then I think they said that it lacked full post code entry.
I picked up a TomTom One from Carphone Warehouse tonight for £222.
It was the last one. Looks good so far but I wish it had come with a mains adapter so I could charge it in the house.

You can get one from Halfrauds for £19.99. Or use a PSP charger.

Oh cool. Got a USB PSP charger which is working! Thanks!
Ian, I haven't seen any other Sat Navs, (or 'sav nats' as Vicki calls them), so I can't offer an experienced opinion there, but I am impressed with the unit. Easy to use and accurate and will come in very handy when visiting new places.

I bought the Tom Tom One last week from PC World for £219, it is excellent & would highly recommend it, I used it straight away (straight out of the box onto my dash) for my journey of 8 miles home from PC World, it took me straight home on the route that only someone with local knowledge would have been able to take, can't get better than that in my eyes. The only downside is that it does not come with a home charger, but as someone has already said in this thread, you can buy them for approx £20
