Does anyone know if there are any VOIP clients that can run on mobile phones? I've just read a review of the Nokia 9300i which can connect to 802.11b/g LANs. It would be great if people could call me on a landline number while I was at a friends house, in a hotel, etc. (Ignore for the moment practicalities such as bandwidth, QOS, etc. being out of my control.)

Cheers,

Higs.

Good Mornin!

Yes there is at least one soloution that I know of, Skype. Skype has a Smartphone client (i don't know about Nokia/Symbians) that will do exactly this as long as you also purchase a Skype-In number (30euros a year).

Here are the details for you:

Skype In (and other services) (http://www.skype.com/store/)

Skype Pocket PC/Smartphones Client (http://www.skype.com/products/skype/pocketpc/)

edit: there may also be other suppliers that do this, just Skype is the only one I know of. I use Skype-In all the time and do have the client installed on my MDA3, just never needed to use it yet as I have a radio home Skype phone already.

The new Nokia Eseries phones have WiFi and SIP stacks on board. I am not sure if it is actually a SIP softphone implentation or just a stack. If it is a stack someone will develop a SIP softphone I am sure. Blackberry also have a WiFI device in the US. It has a SIP stack onboard and can be configured to talk to some SIP PBX's
