marantz cd6000 ose or ki sig. owners! Help!
I recently purchased a Marantz cd 6000 ki signature [used and in very good condition from hifi retailer] as an upgrade to my cd 63 ki siganture. the sound quality on the new ki signature was excellent compared to the 63 ki. I have one serious problem with it.
It struggles to play my copied albums on cd-rs of good quality. ie. tdk audio/jvc audio. All my discs play fine on my denon 2910 dvd player and my 63 ki signature. it keeps coming up with an "ERROR" warning on the dot matrix display.
Any advice? Please help!

I have the CD6000Ki and suffer the same problem, could never get JVC discs to work, and TDK's were a bit hit and miss, the best CD-R's i have found to work when burning from a computer are 'Tuff Disc' 80min 52x CD-R's, ripped at 1x speed

Thanks guys.
I have made a very strange discovery. I have done most of my cd burning in my Yamaha frwf1 a highly regarded audio cd rom burner.
If i burn the same branded discs [problematic jvc/tdk @ 8x speed minimum speed detected?] in my Nec or my Tdk dvd burners [essentially the same drive] the cd6000 ki signature has no problem playing back the cd or skipping tracks in either track at once mode or disc at once. I think there is a compatibility problem with my Yamaha and the ki signature. Cd burner firmware issues/burn quality?
My advice is try another burner.
Any ideas?

The actual problem is with the Marantz cdp. Trying different burners and media is a work-around. I had a Heart CD6000 which occasionally had no problems with CD-R, but more often failed reading every one. When I replaced (added) the capacitor I had no further problems.

sometimes it's down to the laser, the cd17ki mk1 didn't play cdr's but the mk2 did,i had a naim cd5x it didn't like copies burned faster than 4x,the cd63ki plays anything, usually dye compatability isn't an issue on cd's as opposed to dvd's,try using audio grade cdr's see if they make any difference, imo i don't think they will

afblaster,
I think you may be right but what the guy is describing isn't very clear and it looks like a very complicated job. My work around with using another burner will probably suffice for now.
Do you know how to perform the work? Please let me know in detail if you know how to carry out the mod.

usman24,
yes I do know how to do it - I posted the fix on diyaudio.com. The work involved wasn't a problem for me as I worked in the electronics/computer industry for many years. However if you don't feel confident to dismantle the machine (which has to be done to access the servo board), identify the location of the missing capacitor and then solder it to the board, then I'd recommend that you find a service engineer to do the work for you.

Re: marantz cd6000 ose or ki sig. owners! Help!
I was searching for something on the net when I came across this old thread and thought I'd post up the answer you're all looking for just in case anyone else comes across it. Marantz admitted there was a problem with this CD range in that they could not read CDR's.
They offered at the time (around 2002 - 2003 I think) a free modification to be carried out by authorised Marantz dealers, or as long as your CD player was still in the guarantee period. They would change one of the chips inside the CD player that would enable the playing of CDR's. I missed out on getting mine upgraded as I only found out when there was about 2 months left on the offer and I lazily didn't get round to it.
I've got a CD6000 OSE and have sometimes been able to play CDR's but mostly it either won't play the discs or you can't skip the tracks etc as it comes up with "Error".
I'm not sure if Marantz still offer any kind of chip change now for a charge etc but there's one easy and cheap alternative rather than boxing your player up and taking it to a dealer; CD-RW's work on these CD players with no problems!!! Okay, they're more expensive but if you're like me and often changing / burning new tracks, then as least you can reuse the same disks.
The issue has nothing to do with the type of burner, speed of burning or make of disk. It's to do with the disks themselves - CDR's are made differently to CD-RW's, thus this CD player range worked with CD-RW's but not with CDR's.
If anyone does enquire to Marantz about the chip change and if it's still possible, post it here...!
Best of luck all.
