video with 5.1 problem !

hi peeps got a problem.
I'm using purevideo & theatertek & ffdshow.
I have a few lost episode that have 5.1, whwn i play them in video lan i can choose which soundtrack i want the 2.0 or 5.1.
problem is when playing in media player or media center or theatertek i can only get 2.0.
anybody help ?
i'm using a trust 7.1 card set to 5.1 using spdif coaxil to my amp.
playing dvd is an ease, pop in and chosse dd or dts and it playit perfectly.
Just these lost episodes.
I have a few lord of the rings hi-def samples and they play 5.1 automaticly !
