advice on stolen phone, how to track it
Yesterday I was robbed by three black youths and they stole my £300 PDA/Mobile, I have since reported it to the police and had the sim and phone barred, anyway I don't have money for a new phone, I can't even afford the screen protector, I have no insurance as I cancelled it a few motnsh ago, O2 are basically charging me £200 for a new handset, which is a rip off since I can get one for £150 on ebay, anyway I asked them if they can trace the handset and they said when someone inserts a sim they can trace it via the IMEI, and they will report it to the freud organization, but not to me, how retrded is that, it's my phone and they won't tell me if they know where it was last used, anyway is there a service I can use to track the phone or found out where it was last used or if someone has put a different SIM in it and tried connecting to a network, do the UK networks have a special number ot ring to see if I can check if my phone has been used on there network, surely there must be a way, I know the IMEI?...any advice would help...

i'm not sure if you can just insure individual items, i know for certain products eg plasma or if an individual item is quite expensive you have to mention it and they may charge you more. its worth giving them a call , because if you are only insuring a few items it may be very cheap.
where abouts in London did you get mugged?

i know its too late for you now but there was a prog for pdas that was hidden but if it was stolen and someone tried to change owner info on the setup, it would send a text to a nominated number of your choice with the details

This sounds VERY interesting ... any idea what it was called?
And they won't disclose your phones location to you for a very good reason (besides any data protection act issues) - they don't want people taking the law into there own hands.

I personally think thats a very silly idea and a dangerous one to boot!
So you find these guys and they're in the gang of 3 again, what exactly do you plan on doing? Or worse, they recognise you first and jump on you. And then there is of course the unlikely, but possible, point that they may actually be under police surveilence and you then ruin a police op? A lot of phone thefts are linked to drugs and gangs. If you wana get involved in all that then i wish you lots of luck, your gonna need it. Seems a bit of an excessive risk over a mobile phone.

It was a £500 quick Mobile Phone/PDA, so I don't think it as excessive, it has my address and 3 years of contacts stored on it, how would you feel, I don't have a job and no money...and just finished paying it off this month as it was the last month on my contact....anyway i'd say just Kill the B*stards, tie them to the back of the car and drag there buts across the street...set an example for every other thief out there...

Exactly, 500 quid unemployed or not is just 500quid. And if it was that important to you then maybe as another poster says, you shouldn't of taken it out around there. And if you are unemployed and don't have any money then surley there should be other priorities for your cash than a PDA/Phone??? And why do you not have your contacts backed up another place? I learn't that lesson many years ago with my first phone, since then, number one priority of ANY phone is to be able to back it up.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that they should be strung up. Totaly.
If you value time in hospital or severe injury at less than 500 quid, then go for it!
