Putting PC into standby using remote
I've got two remote controls: Avermedia and a generic credit card size one.
What I'd like to do is use one of these to put my PC into S3 standby and then use it again to wake it up.
I know MCE does this but I'm just running XP on this PC. The remotes currently start and stop their respective software when using the power button.
Does anyone know of any freeware that can work with remote controls that may enable me to do this?
I've used Google but of course it finds thousands of "Remote Control" but it's nearly all software for controlling a PC remotely, like VNC etc.
Thanks
Dave

Try uICE, should have an option for it (let's you program key presses) not freeware but very cheap and flexible has a free trial.

It seems my remote isn't supported.
I've installed Media Portal and pinched my Media Center Remote from my MCE PC and configured it to use this.
Power down works fine and is very quick! The problem occurs when I try to wake it up again!
Basically it just doesn't want to know. I've looked in the bios and there is no option to power on by USB device, only various mouse, keyboard and lan options etc. Under power management setup I've enabled Resume by USB From S3.
I had a look in the manual and there are jumpers to make power available to the USB ports in standby mode and I've changed those.
Now when I first put power to the board (without powering it up to boot) I can point the remote at it's eye and the red receiver light flashes so that shows it's working. However, when I boot into XP and then put it into standby the remote eye doesn't respond and the only way to resume is to use the power button.
The motherboard is an Abit IC7-G and the manual is available from the Abit site
Any suggestions?

That works a treat. I can't thank you enough!
Dare I ask one more question? How do I get it to auto-logon when it comes out of standby? I've done all the usual things (I must have missed one though!).
I've done control userpasswords2 and changed one or two other things from this guide The only thing I can think of is that I don't have a password, it's left blank.
As this PC is going under the tele with a remote as the only means of controlling it, I really need to get round this
Thanks
Dave

This is no longer a problem as I have found that if I press the OK button on the remote it continues the login process.
