what to buy? so much choice! lookning at Panasonic TH42PV500 or Samsung 40" LE40R51B

hey all, have read more threads than u can imagine and still undecided on what to do!

i'm looking to spend about £2000 on a tv wanting at least 40", will use for my 360,dvd recorder and sky+, mainly watching dvd's and football!

Panasonic TH42PV500 or Samsung 40" LE40R51B are 2 i have been looking at, also like the PIONEER PDP436XDETA (but fiancee doesnt like the price) !
what do you lot reccommend?

I love my PV500, but the simple answer is... use your judgement!
Go and see all the displays you mentioned, get the dealer to put some HD and SD content on for you, compare the "off air" pictures and the picture from dvd.

I know it can be tricky trying to see these displays at their best in store, most are badly set up... I went in House of Fraser on Oxford Street the other day, and 90% of the lcds and plasmas were displaying a terrible terrestrial signal, the few that were running a dvd source had the aspect ratio set wrongly.. no wonder the poor old public "can't see what all the fuss is about".

Sorry, went off on one there... ... but if you are spending a couple of grand on a new display, you really need to see them for yourself!

Uh huh, and when exactly did you like the price of her new dress/shoes/handbag (delete as non-applicable)? Maybe you should mention that to her.

Excellent price for that package. Makes spending another grand for the 43" Pioneer almost suicidal.
Still think the Pioneer would be the more enjoyable all round on SD/HD/360, but it is a lot of extra dough for a touch more regular and longer term satisfaction.

I'd say go with the Panasonic. I'd love to get one but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to put it. Even the 37 inch model is too big. Oh well, it's a great tv anyway.

Just a quick update. This TV is the nuts. I have heard lots of complaints on here and I was very dubious but, and this is my personal opinion, this is noe great tv. I was lucky to get an xbox 360 and it runs on this screen superbly.

If you are overly into your tv then you could find faults. I am just a standard punter who has bought a tv and has found it to be excellent. I don't look into the techincal side too much as, to be honest, it bores me to tears, all I know is what I see on the screen and thats good enough for me.

I wont be sending this back and for any average buyer, like me, who is thinking of buying this, cut through the technical garb that takes tv's too seriously and invest in this.
