Can anyone with a Toshiba 36ZP46 / 48 help

I recently accesed the system menu settings on my toshiba 36ZP46, i was trying to make some adjustments due to overscan, and the only settings i wrote down to reset if went wrong were the WID, HIT, HPOS, and VPS defaults. I foolishly changed some of the other settings and now it just looks wrong, but dont know the defaults to reset to.

Is there a way to reset the settings to default?

Or could anyone with the same set, or a 36ZP48 (assuming the defaults are the same) access the system menu and tell me the default settings?

To access the system menu, you press mute on the remote, then press mute again but this time hold it down and press the menu button on the front of the tv. the system menu will now appear on screen, DO NOT PRESS THE VOLUME UP OR DOWN ON THE REMOTE AS THIS CHANGES THE SETTINGS, the first one i get is RCUT, and below it will be a value (mine is 45H), these are the values i need, to go to the next setting on the menu press the channel down button (below the OK button on your remote), the next setting i get when is OPT3 with the value 01H, I need all the values for all the settings apart from the ones listed in the first paragraph.

Any help appreciated.

I have a 36ZP48 and I have not changed anything. I shall have a look some time tomorrow and let you know the "default" settings".

I have found a document with the defaults, can you send me your email address and I can attach it for you?

Thanks for your help marcus, but the settings in the document were not the same for my 36zp46, the ones i did write down and know are correct are:

WID
1FH

HIT
2EH

HPOS
37H

VPS2
41H

VPS1
90H

So if anyone has the above settings the same, its likely the rest will be the same aswell, so if anyone wants to check and post the other correct setting please feel free, would be greatly appreciated.

Tried emailing toshiba but they were no help.

Appreciate your efforts guvvie, but unfortunately they are the same as the settings marcus sent me (which were also for a 36zp38), so i think each model must have the same settings, now just to find someone with a 36ZP46 (Or maybe a 36ZP48 will be the same also)

I could be wrong but I thought the difference between the ZP46 & ZP48 was related to the audio side.

When I adjusted the settings on my 32ZP48, I printed the settings (default?) which others had posted. Very few seemed to be identical to the default settings on my machine, so maybe they are set up for each unit.

Do the 5 settings i put 4 posts up match the settings you have?

I though there was no "default" setting, as every unit is set up differently when it leaves the factory?

Try this site for lots if info on this set...
(including a warning about always recording the defaults before you start fiddling around!)

This is right.

Each individual TV is different, they have different tolerances in all the physical parts, and tubes, components and circuit boards.

There will be a 'default' setting that it can be reset to - but this will be the basic factory starting point befroe calibration/setup and will look awful.

Each set is then given a basic setup before it leaves the factory, each will have different settings - you can't copy someone elses settings and expect it to look right. Your original settings are the only ones that will put it back to how it was and these are now lost as you didn't note them.

Sorry mate, it isn't going to be that simple now - thats why every time you see someone mention how to use the service menu they always say 'note the original setting down first', to avoid this situation.

I guess you need to find out more about using the individual settings and the best way to work through them in a set way to set up the picture again. I'm afraid i can't help tho - i haven't carried this out myself. If you do a search on toshiba and service menu you should find posts explaining what the parameters are and do.

Cheers, Brim.

This info is collated from various posts i've been looking at over the last number of months. Usual "not my fault if the info is wrong and you blow yourself up" disclaimers apply.

Hope it helps.

Cheers, Brim.

----------------------------------

After searching some other Toshiba threads I figured out why I was having trouble getting
into the service menu.

The correct procedure is: Press the mute button once (on remote), now press and hold the
mute button (on remote), while holding the mute button press the menu button on the TV
(under the front panel cover on the TV)

The up/down channel buttons on the handset step through the options and the left/right
buttons change the data values.

Turn the TV off to get out of service mode and DO NOT touch any other handset buttons
whilst in service mode. Regards, yt.

Here are some of the available settings you can tweak:
RCUT - Red Cutoff
GCUT - Green Cutoff
BCUT - Blue Cutoff
GDRV - Green Drive
BDRV - Blue Drive
BRTC - Brightness Centre
SCNT - Subcontrast
COLP - Colour (PAL?)
COLS - Colour (SECAM?)
SBY - May be something to do with conversion between Blue and Luma
SRY - May be something to do with conversion between Red and Luma
HPOS - Horizontal Position
HIT - Height
VLIN - Vertical Linearity
WID - Width
PARA - Parabola (i.e. Pin Cushion)
CNR - Corner PARA (better pincushion control at 4 corners)
TRAP - Trapeziod
CPAR - Centre PARA (better pincushion control at 4 corners)
HSC - Horizontal S-Correction (?)
VPS1 - Vertical Phase Shift (?)
CSAW - Centre SAW
OPT3 - I wouldn't touch things like this!

I have now managed to set the picture up a heck of a lot better. But be aware that getting
one mode (widescreen for example) spot on often screws up some of the other modes. Be
prepared to make a compromise to get all modes looking good if you have similar issues as
mine. Also try to make a note of the original settings in the service menu, as it is very
easy to screw things up.

----------------------------------

Other service mode options

Remote control - pressing 1= rcut, 2=gcut, 3=bcut, 4=scnv (which is?) 5=colp, 6=tntc
(which is tint/contrast?) and 9='Selfcheck' (with Time, Power, Bus cont., Block)

Pressing the arrow up/arrow down previous prog button gives you this horizontal blue line
across middle of picture (dunno what it does) and pressing the External Source once, twice
etc button gives you white setup, red, green etc and a grid for geometry set up. (I
recommend the last one).

Service menu is accessed by using the remote, pressing mute THEN pressing and holding mute
WHILE pressing the menu button ON THE TV.
To get the pattern up, press the SOURCE INPUT button several times (it'll cycle a red, a
blue and a green screen before getting to the grid).
