Is MCE2005 slower than XP Pro

I have the 2 OS's running on my system and was wanting to use MCE for everything but I have found it is 1000 points slower in 3d mark 2005 than the normal XP Pro. I have a 6800Gt with A64 3400, 1gb ram - 5000 in XP pro, 3900 in MCE. How can that be? I am using Forceware 81.95 in both (MCE drivers are even slower).

Nothing else is running in MCE to use up system resources whereas my XP is full of AV and desktop widgets. MCE was a fresh install just recently.

Anyone any ideas?

There is a background service running 24/7 in MCE which actually does the recording etc - could that be it?
