Philips 32PW9308 auto-format and superzoom failure- help required

The Philips 32PW9308, that I've had for more than two years, has recently developed an error in auto-format and superzoom mode, so that, in auto-format mode, a black bar of about 2 inches in height now shows when a 14:9 or 16:9 picture is being shown and, additionally, in superzoom mode, a widescreen image is now about two inches lower than it was previously.

Should it be possible to solve this problem myself ?

I've now found out that a progressive scan DVD player was used on the tv over the weekend- and that this has probably caused a problem with the tv's software.

If this is the case, is there a way of causing the software to return to the way it was ?
