Freeview broadcasting 5.1 DD?

I recorded 'The Negotiater' from BBC1 Freeview in October, I have just watched it via My Movies and MCE and my amp detected and played back Dolby Digital 5.1 sound..... I didn't think 5.1 could be broadcast via Freeview???

Good though

You can get DD5.1 on some DAB broadcasts too.

Lisa, why/how are you watching recorded TV through My Movies?

Skunkpipe, is there any way of finding out what will be transmitting in DD, apart from the amp detecting it if you go to that channel?

Mark

If I record films from tv, I move them into my films folder and add them to my movies, so they join the 'not yet watched' queue.

Interestingly, I played about with this film, and discovered that if I play it back via 'recorded tv' or 'my videos' the sound was not 5.1, but if I played it back via My Movies it was - don't know what's going on there?

Are you using an external viewer in MyMovies? Or is your soundcard generating the 5.1 so it is perhaps not really 5.1? It would be interesting to put the file into something like gspot in order to properly analyse the file and see whether it really has all the soundtrack information?
Alternatively if it does have all the 6 sound channels with information in it, then perhaps you need to reinstall ac3filter....

Hope this provides a couple of pointers...

Hi, gspot doesn't recognise it, the most I can find out about the file is it is WMA and WMV, I am guessing it must be WMA Pro 5.1 as I have a 24 bit soundcard and AC3 filter set to 24 bit so it will process WMA5.1 and send to my amp as DD5.1.

I have had this happen for DVDs which are NOT 5.1 but when ripped and played via MyMovies seem to flag the amp as 5.1
