Home cinema surround sound

Hi guys i just bought a projector and im looking at getting a surround sound system, i would prefer it to have a dvd player as i want to get the full system together.
I would prefer the floor standing speakers ( i think thats what they are called) its the tall ones.
The most i really want to spend it between £250 and £400.
Any help is appreciated as i am a total beginner at this.

Thanks

if your wanting DVD, amp and speakers for that price range then your limited generally to the all in a box setups from Pioneer, JVC, Sony etc from shops like dixons or equivelent.........you might want to post in the appropriate forum......this ones more for buying just the speakers.......

altho personally i'd recommend you take time and buy better separates equipment piece by piece over a year or two, you'll end up with a far more enjoyable experience, which considering you've bought a Projector is appropriate......

you could for example get a cheap Toshiba DVD player for around £50, a cheap Yamaha amp for £120, then for the moment just buy a pair of £200 floorstanders....
that eats up your budget and gives you stereo sound....then in a few months or a year or however long it takes you to save you can buy a pair of rears and a centre, say about £80 on the rears and £60 on the centre, then later on get a sub, or at the same time if finances permit...

i did it this way, build it up over some time and i am damn glad i did.....

but if you not worried about that, try posting in the all in one systems section of the forum, they might be able to offer some examples of packages that will suit you :-)

That is what i would prefer to do (get an all in one box setup) i have been looking at the JVC THR-3 what do you think to that is it a good setup?

Or the LG LHT550TB

Or the Panasonic SCHT880W

Sorry about this im just finding setups that look good to me (dont know anything about it all)
