Inline RF Splitter

Right, just moved into a house, which has a box behind the telly (presuming its an amplifier) which fixes the signal.

It has 'screw' Coax/RF connections, 1 in, 1 out.

the one in i presume is coming direct from the aerial. into the box, and the out is running to the back of the TV.

i need to split the "out" to give two connections, one for the TV direct and one to my PC into my freeview card.

the out has a "screw" end, which is fixed to the 'amplifier' and the other end is a normal male connection.

would i be okay to run the existing cable from the amp to a splitter,

then have a male 2 male cable to run to my TV and computer?

ie, would the splitter distribute the signal?

Yes that will work.
If you then get a weak snowy picture replace the amp with a 1 in-2 out amp.
