Does anybody know where or how I can modify the captive mains lead to an IEC inlet for use with a after market mains cable?

buy an IEC socket, open the case, wire it to the power supply.

Or much more safetly- cut the cord, strim the wires and attach a female IEC there. Avoids going anywhere dangerous.
