Dell 2005FPW Monitor

I saw a thread from Lisa about this issue but I can't find it.

I too have bought a Dell 2005FPW 20" widescreen monitor from www.itcsales.co.uk. I wasn't copying - I thought about it before you did What an amazing monitor. Highly recommended, despite my issue below.

Just two issues:

The 6200TC card doesn't quite have the oomph to do full screen video at its native resolution (a whopping 1680 x 1050). I'm ordering a 6600 to replace it, so easily fixed. The 6200TC will be re-deployed in a desktop that runs at a more sensible resolution, so nothing wasted.

I remember Lisa mentioning about the screen being uneven. Mine has bright patches in all four corners, and a darker area in the middle of the bottom edge. It's not normally visible, but is just detectable in darker scenes if you're looking for it, or especially when the PC shuts down, before the monitor goes onto standby.

Lisa - is yours now perfect? Would it be worth me contacting Dell about this? It's probably justabout acceptable as it is, but I wondered if it's possible to get one that is truly even. I know even my laptop screen is a bit uneven, but it's much more even than the Dell.

Thanks
-Sean.

Hello Sean, I am flattered that you are copying me

I am of the opinion that you may as well get it swapped out, my replacement seems much better than the original screen with regard to the backlight issue, and the guy just turned up the next day and swapped out the old and in with the new.

The only danger is if the new one has any dead pixels, but not enough to warrant another replacement. I don't know what the numbers are with Dell.

Yes, the issue of dead pixels had crossed my mind. The one I have has perfect pixelness.

Did you get to switch the replacement on while Mr Dell was at your house? Just thinking whether I can choose to keep the original if I do get a replacement with duds.

Is your replacement totally perfect? I know it's hard to put this into words, but at the moment I have a charcoal background with mid-grey corners that go about 1/3 of the way across the screen. Is there a vast difference between the old one and the new one?

Did you have a look at their 5.1 speaker system, including speaker bar? It's lovely, except for the retina-melting green LED right under the screen. Nothing something black and sticky can't fix.

I also got two PCs from them, so two P4 2.8's, monitor and speakers for £762.47 inc VAT and del. Pretty amazing value.

Ta v much
-Sean.

I couldn't put my hand on my heart and say that the replacement is totally perfect, but it is nearly perfect, there is a vague differential in lighting in the bottom left hand corner, but is only noticeable if the screen is totally black.

No, I didn't get to check the new one before monitor bloke went away - but you could always keep complaining about the backlight issue, maybe, until you get one that you are totally happy with.

Lisa

Well I did copy you and I am delighted with the kit and price however I too have the backlight issue altho to be honest I would not have noticed it without your previous posts. I have tried to contact dell today and just seem to be on permanent hold can you remember the no? Oh no - just noticed a dead pixel this will drive me mad

Do you have it on the default setting (1680 x 1050) all the time or do you change it depending on your usage. Sorry to be thick but I'm new to this A/V stuff

I am planning on building a media pc in the next couple of weeks using the same Asus m/b. You were asking for cpu cooler recommendations Jason at mediapc recommends Zalman CNPS9500-LED

Hi Fred,

That Zalman looks good, but I don't think it will fit in the Antec Aria case that I am planning on using, shame!

I leave my monitor on 1680 x 1050 permanently, but I am not using it for full screen video - it is for my main pc, not my HTPC. The number I used to contact Dell 0870 908 0800, and yes I get very frustrated with the queing system, but they were good once I got to talk to someone.
