Headphone amps

Hi,

At the moment I have a Cyrus power and pre amp (about £1,000 each). The Cyrus amp has a headphone output on the back, but would a dedicated headphone amp make much difference at all?

Tom

Cyrus amps are supposed to have a pretty good sounding headphone socket. I've got a Pre X and it sounds good to me.

Try the Cyrus forum for more advice.

You'll also find all of the advice you need in the headphone section, where you've contributed previously.

As you will know from there, the need for a dedicated headphone amp depends on many factors....how often you listen, how good the 'phones are,do they require a decent headphone amp(like many of the Sennheisers) etc etc.

At the mid- to upper price levels,a good headphone amp will almost certainly perform better than inbuilt sockets on amps, but you'd really need to try a few to decide if the investment is worthwhile.

Have a look at the amp threads in the headphone forum, get a feel for the sort of things on offer, and the price levels involved.

In the lower price areas...Creek,and some of the DIY amps
Midrange...MF Xcans
Upper...Naim,Sugden,Earmax,Slee,Headroom etc

But try first before buying.
