bought my first system

Hey all,

After much advice and reading of reviews and opinions of people on this forum and elsewhere I have finally taken the plunge into the murky world of hi-fi seperates.

I bought the Cambridge Azur 640c for £150 and coupled that with the 540a amplifier for £200. I then decided to buy the mordaunt short 914 floorstanders for £250. It was really tough buying blind as there seems to be less and less shops these days willing to let you hae a demo. However there was the option to bring the stuff back within 14 days and swap it for something else.

I went along to Wilkinsons and invested in a superb equipment rack for a mere £40 which looks really swish with all the equipment on it. I already had a Cambridge DAB300 and have stuck that on the rack also. The DAB is connected to the amp with a Cambridge pacific cable and the CD player is connected using one of marks cables. For speaker cable I have some Gale XL 189 which is 99p/m.

The results:

Absolutely stunning sound quality. The vocals are extremely clear with just the right amount of bass. I ran the amp and speakers in for a total of 36 hours and the DAB sounds superb on all stations.

All I can say is if you're thinking of going for seperates then do so as the results are well worth it!

Indeed, I've never looked back once since hearing separates, definitely the way to go! Plus you've got the added advantage of upgrading one component at a time.
