o2 passing second hand phones off as new
Hey all
Yesterday I upgraded my mobile in an o2 shop. I was dealing with a woman and asked for an Xda Exec which she got up to get, at this point another shop assistant said "theres one behind the door" as she walked into the stock room.
She came back with a box that had been opened and I said "Erm, I want a new phone, not a used one" so she politly said "no problem, ill go get you one" and she vanished into the back room again. The other sales assistant heard me and followed her in.
5 minutes later she comes out with a box and points at the security seals and says "this one is new and unopened, is that ok" to which i said "yes thanks"
After getting home and removing the security seals which were not on very well to begin with i opened up the box and got my phone out. All looks good, protective screen guard on and everything.
But
When I turned it on, instead of asking me to setup the Xda (like my previous ones) it goes straight into the o2 active theme. After a bit of searching around I find a photo called image_0001 which is actually a picture of the inside of the o2 shop that i was in !!!!
Now im a little worried that ive been given a second hand/refurbished phone, maybe one with a fault somewhere.
I have since hard reset it and setup my own settings but now think that maybe I shouldnt have, It all seems to work and im happy with it but are there any pitfalls I should be aware about?
Thanks
Anim

Yeah, it's a bit late now though. It's going to be your word against theirs, and is it really that much hassle. Maybe you should email their customer support, telling them about this, saying that you're not that pushed but should there be any problems, you expect them to be fixed immediately.

cheeky gits!! i cant belive that, i would drop customer services and email and inform them of the problem, i wouldnt worry about there being a problem though, probably opened the box to show a customer, i would think they would be stupid to sell a faulty phone as it would just come back to them, and if it does wrong they send it back to the factory, where it gets refurbished so i doubt it would come back to the shop.
best of luck with it

Would have returned it straightaway. I was told once in a vodafone store, never accept a phone with the box thats been opened. o2 tried to palm off a p900 till I pointed it out.
They got a sealed, unopened no probs.....and the salesmen agreed with me

Dosen't surprise me one bit. Take it back and insist on a new one. Push your luck for a better model too
Had a really poor customer services experience with O2 yesterday over my K750i. I'm a "select" custome and dial 402 for customer services. Despite it still being on my bill, it doesn't work anymore.
Some man insisted on calling me mate which p'd me off, he told me to go to an O2 shop to get it sorted where previously, as a select customer I had to deal direct. My local O2 shop have no loan phones so they advised me to use the Carphone warehouse instead for my repair
Not impressed at all but been with them so long (over 10 year) what can you do
