How can I stop the pc responding to the remote control?

Hi,

I've been lucky enough to get a xbox 360, and found out you can use the media center remote for the extender capabilities of the 360.

However, the pc responds to every button press.

Obviously hiding the receiver is one tactic, but that seems a little low-tech.

Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks

Now I may have this entirely wrong, but I thought that the idea was to use the XBox as a Media extender on a TV that the PC was NOT connected to. If the Xbox is on a TV in one room and the PC is attached to a TV in another room then the IR receiver for the PC would not see the commands from the remote when you are using it to control the XBox.

Or have I comletely missed something?

That is the idea, but I have them all in the same room.

The xbox 360 allows me to continue using the PC while the gf is watching tv.

Surely if your using the XBOX 360 then you can just unplug the reciever from the MCE machine!! Otherwise just stick something over the end of it.

You can also go into control panel on the ME machine and disable the Ehome reciever in system, in the control panel.

Cheers

The receiver also doubles as the IR blaster to change channel, so unfortunately not.

That's what I'm doing currently, but I wanted to know if there was an exact way of ignoring IR commands received, but still leave the IR blaster working.

Simple one this!
(but it's gunna cost you )

Buy the official 360 media remote.(£19.99)
In setup options on the 360, go to "remotes".
Choose the option to only obey the 360 remote!(the other option "all channels" allows any MCE remote to work etc)

It worth getting the 360 remote anyway, as it has the "X" guide button and allows you to turn the 360 on and off

After paying £280 for the 360, £80 for MCE and then £40 for the receiver and remote, that's exactly what I want to avoid.

The PC MCE remote does that!

I guess mine is an unusual case, as I use my MCE PC and 360 in the same room. The 360's main use is as an extender, which will allow me to play PC games (on the MCE PC) whilst someone else is watching recorded TV.

I've basically given up on a hi-tech solution, the receiver is now hidden under a pile of stuff!

I have the same situation as you.
But i house the PC case under the stairs, and run the leads to the monitor(etc), through a small hole in the skirting board.(silence is golden!)
The MCE IR receiver is sat next to my monitor.(in the front room)
It picks up the signal if i try to use the MCE remote with the 360 in extender mode.
I wanted to use the MCE remote because it has number buttons etc.(the mini 360 remote doesn't)
(not a problem as i do have a harmony 855 remote, that i will be programming to include the number buttons etc)

Like you i could have just put a high-tech sock over it!

Although i realised that my reply may have been pointing out the obvious.
I wanted to make sure you knew that the 360 remote would be fine, and wouldn't control your MCE machine etc

Paul D - thanks for the response.

I did realise the little one only worked on the 360 (likewise for the 360 controller), but like you said, both lack the number buttons. Plus, i've got enough remotes lying around!

My sock is now masking tape, and a 360 game!

Don't know if this will work with 360 as haven't got mine yet. It does work with multiple Media Centers in our showroom.

Download and install Tweak MCE on the Remote Control option change the channel that the receiver and remote works on, it includes instructions on how to do this. We have four Media Centers in the showroom all working on their own remotes. Only problem seems to be that the power button doesn't change so one on all on, one off all off.

Just when I was getting excited! On and Off not working still makes my "hi-tech sock" (I like that expression) the winner.

Getting closer though....
