Is that as an extender to an existing MCE PC?
What about ripped dvd's, divx / xvid?

Ok Tim
How did ya do that. I setup my 360 this eve and tried to stream a load of media and I found that-
TV, Pics, MP3 and some Divx/Mpg files streamed fine.
But My DVD's did not work and neither did any of my .TS files. Most of the xvid based divx files did not play either.
I don't suppose you did anything "special" did you?
Thanks
Tone

I guess that the "My DVD's" not working is due to the fact that Microsoft envisioned you putting the DVD into the drive on the XBox and not traipsing through the house to the Media PC to stick a disc into its drive.
This doesn't hold true for those who have ripped their DVD collection onto the hard drive of the Media PC of course. Is that what these ".ts" files are?

I don't have a MCE PC yet myself; can I ask what the ts files are? Are they recorded TV files?

.ts is pure untouched hi-def with 5.1 sound which usually comes from us hdtv cable streams of shows like lost and other films.
I havnet done anything special
all i have running is powerdvd, ffdshow, rollup2 and the media center setup which ive linked to in my other posts. HD looks AMAZING!

I can play the Hi def .TS files in normal MCE but can't via the 360.
Some suggested using HDTV Pump on another thread.
I only use the Nvidia Pure Video Decoder, not the WinDVD one. Do you think that will make all the difference?

Xbox 360 will not play Divx files, nor Xvid. A real pain in the ass, but that's just the way it is. Doh.

Yeah
I was just testing this - Its funny I have some VOB's and MPEG files (Music videos) that happily play.
Also the thumbnails are shown so the files are being decoded, its a DRM thing me thinks.

The thumbnails are just a jpeg file created on the host machine, the xbox can not read the files as it has no codec for it installed. This is not really a DRM thing, it is more a Microsoft thing.
Divx was effectively stolen from MS, so they are a bit resentful to support it (It is not even natively supported in WMP, hence why you have to manually install the appropriate codes) Also why would they allow you to use Divx/Xvid when they are trying so hard to push WMV!!
Same reason they don't support RM, which is a real pain in the ass!!
Cheers
Gareth

I've just downloaded a .ts file and stuck it into "My Videos". Go into the MCE on the 360 and into that folder and, guess what? the .ts is inivisible to the 360. Rename it to mpg and can see it but can't play it.

Re: .ts playback on xbox 360
Is there any way that you we can now stream rm files to the xbox 360
Ive got loads - Id rather not have to convert them if possible
However if conversion is the only way is there any decent freeware
conversion software?
