Thumbs down XFX Low Profile 6200TC - No LP Bracket

I've just received my XFX GeForce 6200TC PCIe card. It's described on the Ebuyer and XFX site as being a Low Profile card. A sticker on the box even states "Low Profile - Book PC Compatible". However, there's no bloomin low profile bracket included in the box.

I've just sent a complaint into XFX, asking whether they can send one directly to me. If they can't then I'll return it to Ebuyer. Waste of time and postage costs though.

If they'd stated anywhere that it's not included then I'd have bought elsewhere.

And before anyone suggests it, I don't think it's too clever to put it in without a bracket. It would then only be held in at the back edge. If they weren't needed then why would anyone bother making them for any card?

When I ordered my LP tuner card, they at least stated that it wasn't included, so I knew that I had to order one (for a massive extra 50p!). I thought that Komplett had one, but it's for another model with analogue out. And they wanted £7.50 including VAT and postage.

Do other LP card makers include a LP bracket? This can't be normal.

Well that's terrible then! These things must cost pence to make. Do these companies think that the sale of goods act doesn't apply to them? A low-profile card should go in a low profile slot! This is the start of my one-man campaign to change the graphics card world! I'll see what XFX reply with before deciding whether to send it back.

I had the same situation on the ASus 6200LP I got from Scan... no option mentioned of a LP bracket even available! So you're not alone matey. I wonder whether the XFX one will fit the Asus?

powercolor low profile cards "usually" come with the bracket, but for some reason not all of them, even when the extra vga output is removable. It's a bit odd really.

I've now got a response from XFX's UK agent, Propellerhead:

Hi, a lo-profile bracket is not automatically included and neither does the product description specify the bracket is included, but yes, we can send one out. We have none in stock at the moment, but are expecting new stock soon and will have one sent out to you as soon as we can. Thanks Tony

I'm not sure about his argument about the product description - it's described as a low profile card!

So it's looking promising then. At least I know I can temporarily fit it without a bracket, then fit it when it arrives.

They really should include a bracket, or at least a bit of paper saying "send us an email and we'll send you one". The outside of the box says "low profile", but there's no mention of it within the manual.

Hi,

I'll send you one. Do you want a VGA bracket for the second slot that you can mount the VGA port (via the ribbon cable) on?

PM me the address.

and me aswellJon if you have another! Will happily pay by Paypal. I need one for DVI output, not VGA.

WheresMyArtisan - Low profile doesn't actually mean the backplate of the card, it means the height of the board of the card. I'm not entirely sure why there should be a requirement for a half-height card with a full-size backplate as I've never seen a case that would require this but there you go.

I have a HP D530 SFF with a low profile AGP slot. I understand that (mostly) when you fit the low profile blanking plate you have to forfeit the VGA connector, is that right? I was wondering if it's possible to get a slightly longer cable and to thread the VGA connector through a spare PCI slot plate? Do you know what I mean? I would like to use the VGA connector as I'm not ready for DVI just yet (but will).

Can you help me out here?

I know what you mean, but wouldn't have a clue where to get one. Have you considered a DVI > VGA convertor plug? They're not very big, and work perfectly. I think the analogue signals are within the DVI connector anyway, so it's just a simple connector - it doesn't contain any DACs or anything.
