Pixmania - is it safe to order from them?

Hello all

I've decided on a Sony DAV-DZ700 and the lowest price by far is on Pixmani. However I've heard lots of people having problems with delivery, country versions, instructions etc.

Should I take the risk and order it from Pixmania or pay a bit more to get from a UK-based site?

Thanks in anticipation of some advice.

I ordered a Canon printer from them a few months back and the power lead had a European 2-pin plug which was very annoying.

If you have to send anything back for any reason, it'll cost you more than you're paying them for postage.....lots more!!

Is it safe or more to the point is it wise to order from Pixmania, well this depends on who you listen to. Over on the various plasma, LCD and DLP forums there is loads of anacedotal evidence of customers having terrible times with this company. One of the main gripes is Pixmania saying they have stock when clearly they haven't and customers having to wait months for their purchases, eventually cancelling and going elsewhere. Also as has been pointed out, they are a French company so if you have to return goods it can prove expensive.

Also most items will come with a Euro mains plug.

I've just received my DAV-DZ700FW ordered on 27/10/05 when their web site said it was in stock at point of ordering & for weeks afterwards.

If you want to wait a minimum month for delivery, if you don't require straight answers when asking why your order was not fulfilled, if you don't mind 2 pin plugs, if you don't mind downloading the english manual, if you don't mind your money being taken from your CC straight away, if you don't mind sending the unit back to France if there's anything wrong at your own expense (& then waiting 4 weeks whilst they assess it for repair)...

How much hair have you got? It'll be less after dealing with Pixmania.

Good system though...

Pixmania are a complete nightmare. As ppl have mentioned they have a stock problem and they openly lie to get you to place your order. Their customer care staff are unprofessional and rude. You will be on hold for 30mins or so before someone answers the call and even then they will not attempt to help.
The goods tend to ship from france with a euro plug. I ordered paying extra for express delivery and it took 8 weeks for the goods to arrive. They only arrived after I threatened them with legal action. Its been 3 months now and they still haven't refunded the extra postage i paid, after many requests. I have cancelled my account with them now. Its not worth the hassle.

Thanks for all your views guys. I think I'll steer well clear. I wasn't too happy with my printer from them but you have validated my concerns.

Cheers!

I've bought from Pixmania recently. Because they advertise as supplying electrical products in the UK, they are legally obliged to supply UK (3-pin) plugs with their UK products. However, it appears they don't normally bother. When I told them they'd broken UK law by supplying the wrong plug, they apologised and sent me a 2 pin to 3 pin adapter, which would probably just get them a ticking off in court rather than a large fine...

I haven't had any problems with them, but you can't expect the best service if you're paying the lowest prices.

I ordered a Fuji Z1 Camera and case from them Sunday evening prior to reading the negative comments floating around the web. Considering that we go on holiday next week gotta admit that i thought i'd done a wrong un and got a bit worried.

Thankfully the Camera turned up today via DHL and the Case is currently with the courier too

Yes the manuals are in french and the plug is the two pin type but they did send over the 3 pin adapter in the package but i did save myself around £40 on high street prices. I don't think it'll break the bank either to return to france if it goes wrong.

There is also a discount link for £10 on orders over £150 when a google search is done.

Steve
