60Hz RGB recording problem.
I recently bought a Panasonic DMR-ES10 but I’ve found that it doesn’t record a 60Hz RGB signal.
In the options you can change the recorder to record either a PAL or NTSC signal, but if you choose NTSC, the RGB menu option is greyed out.
I guess there maybe away to mod the hardware, but I doubt anyone who’s capable of this as tried.
So my only hope is someone can recommend a DVD recorder that records 60Hz RGB (or NTSC RGB if that’s how the recorder manufacturer as chosen to name it.).
Thanks.

I don't think NTSC RGB exists as PAL RGB does. The US use s-video and RGB is not an option on US kit.
You don't say what your source of NTSC is. That is key to the situation, depending on whether it has s-video or not.

My Philips DVDR75 records 525 line 60Hz signals through its SCART input no problem. You dont even need to switch the deck, it auto detects between PAL and NTSC. You cant mix formats on a disc though, but that is true of any DVDR.
Philips do not make the DVDR75 anymore, but I have heard that their more recent models are NTSC compatible too, but I suggest you double check first.
Many people wont touch Philips decks with a barge pole, because their early recorders had terrible reliability problems due to a bad burner. All I can say is the model I have is 2 years old now and has always worked perfectly (of course it will break down now LOL!!!)
Chris.

They don't use RGB in the US, only s-video or component (and cr**py composite).
What device do you want to record from?
Rob.

To true. It's because they don't have SCART's outside of the EU which makes their RGB different to ours. It can be converted but requires extra hardware which the manufacturers would not have used as it would increase the price of the DVD recorder for what is a very limited benefit.

I want to record some videogames footage from some games consoles.
The main problem I have is PAL60, but RGB should get around that.
I also have some Japanese consoles that output a terrible picture to my eyes when not played through RGB, so that’s another reason I’d prefer to record through RGB.

I am in a similar situation and need to record PAL 60, but my ES10 doesn't want to know. Is there an easy way to convert the image to PAL or NTSC?
maco: I see you have had success with the PHILIPS DVDR 3305. Is this with PAL 60 such as the output from the Xbox and Xbox 360?

I emailed Philips, and they replied telling me that the 3305 only supports PAL and SECAM. Great help they were.

The 3305 is the first Philips recorder that doesn't support NTSC recording. All previous models will record pure NTSC in RGB. You'll have a job finding any DVD recorder that will record Pal 60 , so if you are trying to copy NTSC tapes to DVD try to get hold of a Thomson VPH6950 or VTH7090 VCR, and you could then feed pure NTSC to the DVD recorder.

Re: 60Hz RGB recording problem.
Sorry this is a bit late.
I've used it to record a PAL60 signal from a Gamecube which should be the same as PAL60 from a Xbox with no problems.
Also I've used it to record a NTSC-J signal from a Japanese PS2, again with no problems.

My Pioneer DVR-440HX-S will record PAL 60, says so in specs such as p134 of manual. You just need a video player that can play NTSC (most I think) and you can dub NTSC VHS to DVD.
Also, I think Philips record PAL60 too, I used either a DVDR75 or a DVDR3320V to dub NTSC tapes to DVD, my memory is a bit vague as I chucked the tapes straight after so I cant actually verify. Philips and Pioneer are the only ones that will do this though, Sony and Panasonic wont and I would not consider buying any other make.
