Pio 630 or Pana EH60? Is Freeview worth it?

Just looking at the price of the 630 and was well supprised i can get one much cheaper than the Pana

Anyone with any ideas

slightly different beasts but how good is the Pioneer as we all seem to think that Panasonic have a very good recorder?

If you want to record from Freeview then go for the Panasonic - no doubt about it. Recordings made from it's internal tuner are significantly better than the Pioneer can offer from a set-top box. Especially as you start to work down the quality modes: the difference between Fine and SP on the Pioneer is much more marked and noticeable than that of XP and SP on the Panny.

If recording mostly from Sky then the question of the Guideplus EPG comes into play - you might consider that the set-top box control on the Pioneer is worth the quality hit. Only you can decide that - but if recording from Sky+ or Freeview look at the Panasonic.

Thanks for that Rasczak,

I just hope the Panasonic is not too shabby at editing etc as i am changing from a Tosh XS34.
I know the Tosh is a very flexible machine but it was far too noisy for the open shelf i have it on.

Many thank for your advice over the years.
