I have this system, connected to a Hitachi 42PD7200. Picture quality is excellent. I've found just using the default settings of the amplifier give an accurate, excellent, clear and pure sound quality (to me anyway). The speakers and amplifier are excellent, with a great dynamic range, good output with extremely low distortion with a low noise floor. I find the prologic II setting good for trying to make stereo into 5.1 and the 5 channel stereo excellent for playing music. I do think the placement of the speakers is very important in the configuration and calibration of the system rather than the actually intensity configurations.
I find the sound quality and thus configuration are personal to everyone. It will depend very much on a persons hearing status. A hearing loss could affect a persons perceived sound quality very much. Such as a person who may have a slightly worse hearing in higher frequency sounds will need more treble for a more natural, pure and clear understandable sound. A person with a different hearing status would not perceive this the same. (Generally as we get older we loose sensitivity to higher frequency sounds)
Sorry not much help really if your not happy with the default settings.
