I want to start playing with VOIP just for fun really. I dont know anyone else who uses Voip though. I have signed up to Sipgate in order to get a landline number, but I would want to use voipbuster for all my outbound calls. Ideally I still want to use my normal dect phones. What would I need to get this working?

Cheers

Dave

It really depends on how you connect to broadand or cable. VoIP works best if you have a local network in the house, with a permanently-connected cable or ADSL router. You could then use a device like the Linksys PAP2 (http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=2222) which is a box that connects to your local network, and allows two ordinary phones to be plugged in (these could be DECT phones). Alternatively there is a little box called the Grandstream ATA-488 (http://www.voiptalk.org/products/Grandstream+Handytone+ATA-488) which has a built in router, and allows calls to be made or received through VoIP or PSTN, and allows PSTN calls to be routed through VoIP.

If your computer is connected to broadband by a modem, then your options are rather more limited.

You said in your other post http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2185812#post2185812 that you had already played with Voip and was not impressd. but now you say you want to play with VOIP.
So which is it? You have, and you are not that impresed, or you have not and are interested?

Sorry if I am wrong, but are you just trying to post lots of threads so we click on your referal link to a pyramid FREE "what ever is the hot new toy" web site

Mucca,
If you look at my post count you can clearly see I do not post on such a regular basis as to hope to get anything from my sig links, I am not a serial poster. I will be honest and say that I previously posted questions, and even after all the advice i was given I didn't seem to be any closer to a real useable set-up. I have played with Voip in the fact that I used my PC with a headset, that to me is not a practical use. When I started reading about the maplins box that you press a button to swap between voip and landline it got me thinking again. I did also state that I had already signed up to sipgate, so its not as though I was trying to act as a total newbie. It was after siging up for sipgate that I then realised I hadn't got a clue what I needed to get the service working...

Sorry if you got the wrong impression, I was only trying to hide my own ignorance and the fact that I have already had advice and not really managed to make any sense of it.
