See here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008PC2O/qid%3D1133093837/203-5622214-5323951)

Doesnt say that its HD but on the US site it does say the extreme edition is HD.

That's it. Thanks for the head up. I ordered it off of amazon.com this morning. The region 1 has HD but the region 2 one doesn't.

I ordered that and Coral Reef Adventure.

Are there any places in the UK that sell WMV HD's?

Is there a list of available movies in WMV HD?

The US edition needs an Internet connection to authenticate the license and check that you are connecting via an American internet connection. Unfortunately they seem to know about all the popular US proxy servers, I gave up in the end and bought the D-VHS version - which looks fab!

There is a German site doing english language WMVs (have a search through this forum) though I suspect they may be unnoficial.

Only takes a few days to arrive. I have bought a fair few HD movies from Europe. :)

I've had my 'HD Ready' plasma about two weeks now and have already accumalated 8 WMV HD DVDs all from the following places...

PLAY USA (http://www.playusa.com/)

CD-WOW (http://www4.cd-wow.com/index.php?affid=12347&pp_nr=1)

DVD Concept (UK Based) (http://www.dvdconcept.com/?page=shop/browse&srch_type=title&srch_vars=WMV-HD&PHPSESSID=c880617598436b0613383805d09638f5)

But the films like Tomb Raider, Gangs of NY and Italian Job (got this one the other day...STUNNING PQ) you can get from HD-TEC (German based) (http://www.hd-tec.com/shop/index.html)

You can also download some good HD clips from HD-CLIPS.NET (http://www.************/forums/index.php?showforum=9)

Of course you'll need a PC, Media Centre or Media player to play them.

I can highly recommend pretty much all the 'IMAX' range. EXCELLENT PQ.

They're not 'PAL' as HD-DVDs are neither PAL nor NTSC.

M$ don't have a UK distributor for these disks, only USA and Germany that I know of for some strange reason. I'm surprised nobody in the UK has jumped on this one.

.

Neither are regular DVD's, he probably just meant 50Hz.

Kevo,

From Play USA I got a few of the IMAX DVDs...
(they don't catergorise them any different, just as normal DVDs as they all come with a version on a regular DVD, so make sure you get the '2 disk version') assome of these titles were originally released as a '1 disk normal DVD' and are still available.

Coral Reef Adventure (http://www.playusa.com/DVD/Region_1/3-/145086/Product.html?searchstring=coral)

Amazon (http://www.playusa.com/DVD/Region_1/PROD/2-/170896/Product.html)

Journey into Amazing Caves (http://www.playusa.com/DVD/Region_1/PROD/2-/180506/Product.html)

To The Limit (http://www.playusa.com/DVD/Region_1/3-/180708/Product.html)

And from CD Wow I got erm...Island Fever 3 (http://www3.cd-wow.com/adult_detail_results_2.php?product_code=14245) Purely for 'HD Research' you understand ;)

Purely for 'HD Research' you understand ;) :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've got Underworld, Coral Reef and Terminator 2 arriving soon but I heard you have to make back up copies of them so that they don't try and connect to the internet or something. Is this true or can I just play them off my PC.

AFAIK T2 and Step Into Liquid require 'online DRM' to be able to play them and you have to live in teh US to access it otherwise it detects a 'foreign IP' and refuses to play. But there are ways round this that have been discussed elsewhere on this forum.

All the ones I own have 'disk DRM' and play fine from my PC so no need to make back up copies.

EDIT....

There are further 'complications' regarding playing the WMA PRO 5.1 audio .

I use the SPDIF socket on my mboard to my amp but have to use a piece of software called AC3Filter (freeware) which converts it to DD 5.1 on the fly whcih my amp can then decode.

It depends on whether your amp and soundcard can decode wmapro 5.1, few can. At the very least you'll get 2 channel stereo.

They have no region coding or online DRM.

I agree, initially they play OK but after a while of playing HD with WMP my PC just 'runs out of steam' and grinds to a halt and I have to reboot.

You could probably get away with 720p if you upgraded your graphics card to a geforce 6600gt (around £100). :)

I dont know how the bigger 1080i TS files would work out though.

seems to depend very much on the format.. i downloaded a 1080i version of matrix revolutions (ts), and it played fine as long as i didn't have other things running, but the quality was horrendous, a 700mb divx would have looked better than this 10.5gb ts file! i've got a 1080i video of "victoria secrets fashion show" (avi) and that runs flawlessly and looks superb. the 720p trailer for ice age (mov) stutters so badly i miss half the trailer. i'm currently trying to get 720p versions of The Transporter (avi) and The Fifth Element (wmv)

i have been thinking of upgrading, but i think when i do i'll be upgrading the whole pc, i really don't wanna be sticking with dead technology (agp) when i upgrade my card.. i just can't be bothered upgrading it at all at the moment! I work with pc's all day and i seem to have lost interest at home, all i do mainly is surf and play pro evo 5 ;)

I normally find its all down to the bit rate. Some TS files are in their low twenties (Gladiator Bev Version & LOTR) and others are in the low teens. Transporter should work as its 720p and a small file (4 gig I think).

I know where your coming from when you say you would rather upgrade the whole box, I am just the same. :)
