Hi,
Signed up for VOIPCHEAP and using it via my PC speakers / mic. Is the service compatible with all these USB phones you see advertised? On there website they talk about the service being compatible with SIP phones also (but they do not provide support). Anyone tried this or knows where to get the SIP info to put into the phone.

They do not offer any setup details and there client is there own. the only link about siptake you to another website.
I would ask them what protocols and ports they are using?
Do they offer any VOIP to VOIP routing ie from them to sipgate, is it FREE?
If it is fully sip then you need there sip server details (eg sip.voipcheap.co.uk) with password.

Do you think a USB phone would work with their softwarte. Had a read up on USB phons, but could not understand how they interact between with the service providor software (except as a numeric keypad ?)

A USB phone will appear as an additional soundcard on your PC. You can then set voice for the phone and sound/music for the normal soundcard. If there is a keypad on the phone then it may require additional drivers or an application to allow you to use it with the VoIP application. In any event you will still be able to use the PC keyboard for dialling etc. and the phone for conversation.

Yamamoto phones work with VoipCheap. Drivers available on Yamamoto-Group website and phones from http://www.voip24.co.uk .

Dear All,
VoIP cheap is a really an offshoot of VoIP Buster which operates many regional sites like VoIp Cheap. The company is notoriously elusive and hard to contact but there are drivers for USB Phones (http://www.i-voip.co.uk) available from http://www.i-voip.co.uk.
These drivers are available for free for and anyone who owns either a USB deskphone like the one displayed on the site or a Voip Handset will be able to use them.
These particular phones are listed on different sites under different brand names, The phone m , Yamamoto, Waitec etc. However they are all essentially the same phone and the VoIPCheap drivers will work for them.
Incidentally there are also VoIP Routers (http://www.i-voip.co.uk) available which work with VoIP Cheap. These are probably a better bet for businesses and regular users.
Best,
Paul
I have all the information regarding voip-cheap's SIP service, you just have to sign up on the other site the link takes you to. I am however, very interested in SIP because I imagine the quality is better. What phone would I need to use for SIP? Any recommendations?

1. Buy a Linksys PAP2 from Comet or Amazon for 19.99 pounds (which is locked to vonage).
2. Google for unlocking instructions.
3. The PAP2 has 2 VOIP ports which you can connect to your normal phones. In this case, if you use DECT phones, you can make VOIP calls wirelessly.
I have used them for nearly 6months now. Highly recommended.
Other providers: sipdiscount, voipstunt, sipgate, stanaphone etc.
svkhtn -> will this work in any country? how is quality? You think you could drop me a pm with a bit more info? or chat on msn?

Yes, it will work in any country.
The quality is superb!!!
Last week, my friend got 2 PAP2s from Amazon and it can be unlocked.
However, recently, I heard that many new PAP2s in the US couldn't be unlocked because they are shipped with new firmwares.

The pap2 doesn't seem to be available at Comet online at all, and Amazon are showing it at £39.99 with no details but implying it is for Vonage use in the title.
Is it available anywhere at £19.99 ish?

I've noticed various other forum posts which mention that the latest units have updated [vonage] firmware which could make unlocking difficult/impossible.

Just an update - Bought a PAP2 from Comet for £20 and finally managed to unlock it following some www forum postings elsewhere. I had firmware 3.1.3. I believe that anything up to 3.1.6 should be safe for unlocking. Now set up with sipdiscount and all is well in cheapy voip telecomland...

Hi
Hope someone can help - I just got a Linksys PAP2 from Comet hoping to be able to unlock it, but I can't browse to the Web Page of the PAP2 - does this mean the unit is locked?
If so, what do you reckon my chances are of being able to return it to Comet:)
TIA

Skype will run through the box but you will still need your computer turned on. However it will not manager call quality using Skype.
