Blu Ray V Marantz DV 9600

Does anyone know what the differnce in picture quality will be between Blu Ray and the Marantz DV 9600 which scales to 1080p.

Massive.
Upscaled DVD can never compete with true HD.

the marantz upscales 480i/576i to 1080p. blueray will be full res 1080i hopefully P. So a fair jump in resolution thats actually there on the disc and not faked.

(go with HD-DVD and avoid sony$ DRM rubbish that will kill the show. HD-DVD is the better of 2 evils)

The Marantz is looking like a realy nice bit of kit though, and would tied you over till the format war ends.

Upscalling cannot 'create' information that is not there. Although it will do a good job of 'tidying up' what it has it can't magically create data that isn't in the source to begin with

Is it just me or does this upscaling thing compared to hd seem a bit like the difference between dolby prologic and dolby 5.1. Deja vu anyone?
