Hi. We're thinking of buying a new satnav device, but are unsure of which would be best. It would need to be for long distance driving around the country.

The models we have so far found are: Navman icn 650 and the Sony NVXP1

The problem is, we are not really sure which is best and the differences between them versus the price etc.

Any help is most welcome, especially from long distance drivers who have any such device :smashin:

Check out this website:

Also have a look in Halfords, they now have a large range. Note I said look but shop around for price.

The Tom Tom Go range work very well and have a price to suit all. However a number of the PDA based versions are a lot cheaper than the dedicated versions.
Also try these sites:

I am sure that I have read poor reviews about the Sony, not very user friendly in operation.

I ihave a tungsten e and wanted sat nav, I play in a band and its hell trying to find a place in the dark with loads of maps!
I at last got on the net and did some research, the kirrio software is what i decided on and it works very well- real no brain point and shoot driving.
I have found some quirky things in the spoken instruction.....for eg:

on a long road with a bend in it, it will say take a slight right?!
and some smaller roundabouts are just not shown on the mapping, guess the software needs updating slightly!
another thing is in london the square mile, below the tall buildings, if its very built up you will loose tracking and drive around aimlessly for ages!
But all in all I am very pleased with the thing, now I understand the tungston e and the kirrio software are available as a package for about £150! Briliant, go get it mate, cant go wrong..

I've been looking at getting a TomTom GO 300 or 700 but haven't really been able to make up my mind yet. They both have been getting good reviews though.

I've had a Go 300 and thinks its the dog's swingers.

Its very customisable and the Point of interest feature allows you to add the free speed camera database from www.pocketgpsworld.com.

Can't recommend it enough

I have a mio 168 with Mio software (based on Destinator 3). Very pleased with it, though i have nothing to compare it to. Only gripe is it doesn't do post codes. Fugawi, which loads up detailed ordnance survey maps is a fantastic piece of software.
