Just wondering how quiet they really are compared to a normal PSU.
At £54+VAT it needs to be good otherwise it's not worth getting.

I went from an Enermax to a QuietPC power supply and must admit I am not overly impressed for the extra cash...the Enermax's are pretty quiet themselves though.

I am using their biggest one (400w) from memory. It is very quiet and just seems to do the job I want. It does what is claimed if noise is an issue to you. I now have a ultra quiet black PC with a noisey DVD drive!

I know Jeff found HCPC picture quality was down to PSU quality and made several changes in this respect. I can't remeber what he did however. It would be worth getting Jeff to say something or use the search engine for his posts on the PSU subject.

Cheers for the imput guys.
I think I'll need to do some checking up on power supplies and claimed noise ratings.

I think they claim around 26db. If loads of other manufacturers are claiming a lot higher then I'll know it's quiet compared to what I have. It just seems a lot of money to spend out on a PSU if it's only going to be marginally quieter.

Cheers.

I have a PCPowerCooling Silent 400 with a Papst replacement fan (12db), but you are talking bucket loads of money ($179 + import costs + £12 for the fan). I have tried a QuietPC PSU but I didn't find it do be particularly silent and I would worry about the quality of the PSU itself. Your best bet would be one of the Enermax PSUs

Having personally used 4 QuietPC Fans now I can vouch for the reliability of them. In fact as a nice simple one-stop supplier of quiet kit I quite like them.

If I had an almost silent PSU like the Enermax I wouldnt bother upgrading. If I had a real loud unit then I would. Better still buy a case without a PSU :)

Looking at the Enermax website they make PSU's with variable speed fan via a control on the back.
May take a look at one of those.
