removable skirting board?

i'm currently in the process of planning to fit a new 42" plasma above my fire. I'm planning to drop the cables down through the wall and out by the side of the fireplace.

does anyone have an recommendations about how i should go about fitting a kind of spring loaded piece of skirting board that i can take off off and put back once the wiring is in place?

you could use magnetic bits, like on kitchen cupboards?

magnets could work, or the fixings used on kitchen cupboard kick panels.

How often are you wanting to remove it? If you use anything other than proper screw fixings you'll most likely always have a bit of a gap around it - if that's not a problem, magnetic catches may work. Also, I have even seen velcro used as it can be stapled to soft wood beading! The final option would be to use the same technique used for some bath panels - using screws with caps that attached to the screw head after fixing. This way the screw can be accesses but it is tidied up with a cover.

thanks for the suggestions, i have wood flooring getting laid this week and i'll try some of the methods mentioned.

the thing is as soon as the flooring is down the piece of skirting will be hard to get off after. hopefully i'll get a nice flush fit and it won't notice when i come to run the leads out when the plasma goes up.

Not 100% sure what you are trying to achieve, but could you not route the back of the skirting out, lay your cable behind and then install a banana plug terminal on the outside of the skirting boards? You're main cable run (and skirting) would be fixed, but you have a nice finish and flexibilty to add/extend move speaker cable at will.

That is similar to what I have done. The back of teh skirting board was routed out and three sets of ducting was run to accomodate audio, video and power cables then I have plates with speaker terminals and such around the room.

The skirting board is in sections of around five feet each and they are screwed into wood battons behind them at the top and bottom so I can remove different sections as I need to.

This is not the best picture to show what I have done as it was taken during a recent 'cable tidy' but it gives you an idea.

As I've already got a router I've just picked up a router table from ebay for £30 so I think I'll be buying the standard stuff and doing it myself then. Mmm great business idea, anyone want wooden routed skirting boards cheap then
