iPod 5th Generation
http://www.macrumors.com/
Looks like I was wrong, and Apple might well be announcing the 5G iPods.

You never know with Apple
ppl kinda suspected a flash player to replace the mini's, but were all taken aback by how Apple could manufacture all the Nano's in secret and get them out so quick
Prob doing it now with 5th gen....

IF they are going to stick at 40 gig hard drive in the 5G, then isnt there going to be a whole in the sales between 5-20 gig, does this mean we could see the mini coming back, and the ipod itself going upmarket?

Rumour is perpendicular drives will be used to:
a) increase capacity and keep same physical size, and/or
b) keep same capacity in smaller physical size,
so Apple can have bigger screen, with a new smaller click wheel. Thats the rumour anyway
Mini's won't be back. Why harm Nano sales? Nano has replaced mini line anyhow's.
I reckon 6-8-10gb flash sizes in 2-3 years

I'd say 1-2 years.

Still too damned slow, this flash-based progress. I want 60GB flash, and I want it now!
Oh, along with the cash to pay for what would currently be a stupidly expensive player!

I reckon that would be nice, it will be interesting to see the 5G ipods when they are released.

From ilounge....
Apple has announced a “One More Thing” event on October 12, 2005, at the same California Theatre venue in San Jose where the iPod photo and U2 Special Edition iPod were announced last year. The event, promoted to select media, will begin at 10:00am Pacific, and is named after the famed oratory trick of Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who uses the phrase as a prelude to a bombshell announcement at the close of a keynote speech. As contrasted with the blue jeans image used to tease the announcement of the iPod nano, the One More Thing event is promoted with a red theater-like curtain. iLounge will be on hand to provide coverage of the day’s announcements, which will come one day after the company publicly discloses its financial results on October 11.
It's being advertised with a movie curtain so does that mean music video playback, or maybe more.

A video one would be a "educated surprise"
I hope they at the least do a black one as well as white, like Nano. More colours would be a pleasant surprise

I dont see the point, nor like the idea of the vPod
Seriously, what is the point, when 'most' people use their ipod they are on the move, wouldnt that be the point of the vPod...however, how can you be on the move and watching a movie, unless on a train or a bus. Since when can we watch a video whilst we are walking or driving etc. So the only times people could use them are whilst sitting at home or work or whilst on the train or bus somewhere
However, if they do release it, im sure the prices of the 20GB colour will come down, if they do i think i will buy one

..that exact same problem hasnt prevented the take off of other media devices such as cell phones or other personal media players made by archos, creative, iriver...to name but a few! I think they call it technological advancement and being innovative...albeit there are loads of players already out on the market

do you really see many people walking around with a video player in their hand? or do you see more with an ipod in their pocket and the distinctive white earphones?
