Best budget screen

Owl, ScreensUK, Draper, Da-lite?

I'm looking for a 2.1m wide 16:9 drop down with black borders.

I need something that will hang flat for a few years and have a small amount of gain (as long as the gain is good quality)

It's for a BD808.

Hardly anyone seems to sell more than one therefore comparative tests are hard to come by.

Cheers
Alex

Bumpity bump

OK - I'll rephrase

Tell me what screen you have (if it fits the description above) and tell me whether you are happy with it, whether you've been thinking of upgrading for some reason, whether the gain is even and whether it has remained flat or started to curl throughout your ownership.

Cheers
Alex

When you say 'drop down', do you mean a pull down one, or will you be happy with a permanent screen?

I can tell you how to make one for about £30 if you can put up with a permanent screen.

Gary.

I'm afraid I can't use a permenent screen

Getting rid of a permenant screen is one one of the reasons that we're moving to a projector rather than a telly.
I hate the fact that when it's not on the room is still dominated by it.

This is a livingroom system and I am looking for something that I don't notice the rest of the time.

I've toyed with the idea of building a hinge-up screen which is against the ceiling when not in use but I think it will still be a bit dominant.

I've also toyed with the idea of having a screen-sized picture on the wall that can then be turned around when movie-watching.

In the end I think the drop-down (rollerblind) type of screen is the best solution for me.

Anyone got any comments?

Cool

Alex

I don't want to seem patronising, but have you thought of actually using a roller blind. I have made a makeshift screen at work using a 1.8 wide blackout blind that I bought from B&Q (or it may have been Great Mill) for £15. It needs to be a blackout blind as they are much thicker and have an dull white reflective backing.

I used to use paper from an A1 roll but I got the idea of using a blind from this forum. I turned it around so that the off-white side was facing outward and hey prestow, instant screen that rolls away when not required. I even masked the edges with an inch of black paint to form a perfect 16:9 shape.

If it's not to your liking then its only £15 down the swanny and not £450+
