sony NW-HD3 USB question! pls read!

hello... i was wondering.. 2 things...

1. if i hook up my HD3 to a PC without any powercord... and use it as a normal removable HDD does it take up battery? or does it work like a removable HDD and takes its 500mA from the USB port?

2. whats the HOLD thing there do? i bought it from ebay .. so no instructions.
thanks.

HOLD means no buttons work while it's on. So you don't switch tracks accidentally in your pocket, for example.
