Sony DAVS 500 Replacement help?

We have a sony DAVs500 which has a serious fault and 2 independent audio repair comapnies have said that the cost of repair/replacement of faulty parts would cost more than a replacement unit! We want to keep using the existing speakers/subwoofer but want a system of comparable quality/features but need advice on what to buy. Any help/ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Sony Davs 500 Replacement

I bought the unit in 2001 but it was only used for a couple of months before being packed away as we moved abroad and then unpacked in Nov 2004 when we discovered the fault.
