Sony Ericsson 750i Firmware Reflashing and Unlocking
I just bought a 750i on here, which was a Vodafone upgrade. I don't use Vodafone as in Ireland, they're a rip off, plus I've a Meteor staff phone which gives me free bills up to 90sterling a month. Which suits me fine.
Basically, I want to get the phone unlocked and reflashed to get rid of all the Vodafone branding when I get it.
I know the official Sony Ericsson site has an firmware upgrade. I'm just wondering does this overwrite all the Vodafone crap and the SIM card restriction. If anyone wants to point me towards any sites, it'd be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The SE website will only update the current firmware on the phone, so all the Vodafone branding will still be on there. You can unbrand/unlock the phone yourself, but that requires special software and cable and is not straight forward. Simply take it to an SE service center, they should do it, and if not to one of those dodgy unlocking/unbranding shops on certain high streets, but they'll charge you.

I can talk to the Sony Ericsson rep I suppose, as I work for a phone company. I might be able to get it done for free with a 'dodgy' shop as we do advertise for him.
The SE 750i does come with the data cable, but I've no idea where to find the software so if people want to start pointing, I'll start looking.
Thanks for the help though.

Actually, has anyone updated their SE 750i with the W800 firmware? It's meant to basically turn the 750i into a W800, though I have heard this can affect the camera in a negative, but not majorly negative, way.

For older phones you used to be able to buy a £10 Terminator dongle and reflash/unbrand it, but I think these things are more costly nowadays. Check out these sites www.ucables.com or www.gsmserver.com for the necessary software and hardware. but I think it's easier to just have it done in a shop or by your rep.

I'll probably give my rep a shout first, but I'm not sure how reliable he is, as he was supposed to come down to me last week to let me play around with the 750i, but he didn't. On the plus side, he did give me a suit bag, a travel bag, a laptop bag, some coasters, numerous pens, a photo frame, some Stretch Armstrong-alike thingy and XXX (the film, not the porn, more's the pity) DVD. Not a bad haul.

Yeah, I'd be interested in knowing if this has been tried by anyone...
