View Full Version : What colour to paint my HC
I've nearly finsihed the construction of my home cinema in my cellar but I am having trouble picking a colour for the walls. The ceiling is going to be a dark colour if not black because the screen is at ceiling height but apart from that I haven't got an idea. Has anyone got any good ideas or pictures to give me inspiration?
Thanks
Try looking at fulabeers' DIY HC.
I think blue is a nice colour with a very dark blue ceiling, close to black but noticably blue at times.
i personaly have gone for a black ceiling (you can't do better inmyop)
as for walls it's a tast thing .a lot of people tend to go with dark gray or red .
i am going with green walls gray wood work black ceiling and screen wall green and gold sofa and a few touchs of gold here and there
have a look here http://www.avscience.com/installs.html may give you few idears
i would just say if the pic is important to you go for the darkest colour you can

I wouldn't paint the ceiling black as it's a bit too oppressive IMO. Just pick a very dark colour. I chose matt blue. The darkest colour on the chart at B&Q.
Check out my home cinema.
Stuart i must admit you could be right .
what i did i got some fake clear jem stones (like the ones in kids jewelry) and glued them to the ceiling in a celestial patern . i would have gone for the fiberoptic route but it was just a little above my budget
now when the pj or tv is on they just twinkle a little with the changes in light and i have a lovely star feild
might sound a bit naff but the wife likes it and that's the important thing

Gee,
I had the same problem last week, so i asked the Girlfriend to choose a colour. I outlined that it should be dark.
She picked one of the Dulux mix colours, it is a darkish purple. I was weary when it went on but i have done three walls and the ceiling, plus glossed the same colour on the skirts etc. I must say it looks fantastic! My screen wall is Black.
Take a look at the photos in the link below, although the flash makes it look a little blue. If you like i can post the name of the mix for you.
when it comes to wood work . you may consider using a matt paint with a protective coat of matt varnish . i am doing this .it may help more when it comes to reflected light
the woodwork has always anoyed me more than anything when watching a film. with having matt walls gloss woodwork allmost glows
just my op though
Guys,
Thanks for the ideas and links. I think I will go with dark blue or dark red or both. Women definately have a better eye for this sort of thing, my girlfriend has already expressed her opinions on a few of my ideas! I thought it was supposed to be my room??? Go figure!
