I think the difference in the cinemas between Americans and British people acurately reflects the difference in cultures.
While both countries have idiots who use mobile phones, kick chairs and talk during a film, the Americans seem more more able to express their emotions.
For example, I watched ID4 in a US cinema. The yanks were whooping and punching the air. They loved the 'Today is our independance day' speech.
While I was wanting to tell them to be quiet and nearly vomited during the speech.
Quite a startling difference between our cultures, I'd say.
We also went to see escape from LA. Big American infront of me put his hands behind his head to relax. Like Chewie after beating R2 at chess (or whatever the game is). It completely blocked my view and I was flabberghasted that anyone could be so stupidly inconsiderate. I had to ask him to put his arms down. He seemed surprised, but did it.
Idiot.

I felt stirred and very 'americanized' after that 'Idependence Day' speech. Goddam! Let's kick some a**e!

I recently saw boith Disney's Atlantis and Angelina Jolie's Butt Wiggler in a Digital Projection Cinema in Downtown Disney next to La Nubas - Cirque Du Soleil tent.

Let's just say the picture quality was the best I'd ever seen at a Cinema. Milton Keynes Cineworld has never been the same since.

My wife and I were in the IMAX in the Smithsonian Air & Space museum a couple of weeks ago and some ignorant oaf made two mobile phone calls during the show...

I think the difference in culture is best expressed like this;

The Americans believe the cinema is their living room and treat it as such. The British (Gord bless us!) realise that they are in a public place.

I've seen a few films in the States, most recently Mummy Returns in Washington in April and I was amazed at how little the Americans seemed bothered about the film. It was as though they were in their own house casually watching a movie, one guy even got up and started taking orders from his mates for hotdogs.

However, I have come across some very rude and ignorant British people in cinemas and the fact that it is not the norm makes them stick out even more.
