Just viewed the `Fast and Furious` at Cineworld/Solihull last night,and once again yet another cinema that just does not cut the mustard!! We viewed in screen 6,do not know if the others are all like this - will investigate further soon,but their was no clue as to what format the film was being shown in - Dolby Digital ???/DTS??? could have been anything.They also showed the Cineworld animated short telling you not to smoke/talk/and then some guy getting the crap kicked out of him for using his mobile by a second rate Lara Croft and the couple in front getting their heads banged together for talking - I totaly agree with not doing these things in the cinema,but it seems a wee bit extreme,and anyhow it did not make a scrap of diference to the collection of baseball hat wearing youths talking and smoking throughout the flick - bah!!and then there is that idiot you always get behind you who is forever knocking the back of your chair <img src="mad.gif" border="0"> Why are these places run by the most "unintrested in films" bunch of spotty youths <img src="confused.gif" border="0"> If you ever ask a question about any aspect of the film(i.e. sound format)or cinema,you are always greeted by an "I dunno" or "I will try and find someone who does" yet you never see them again,and the scren was so far away it was like watching a big screen tv at the end of a big room,way too many seats on the flat part of the floor,before they started to go up in stages,the screen was at least a good 80 to 100 feet from where we were sitting <img src="eek.gif" border="0"> anyhow I could go on ranting but the only satisfactory cinema we have found is the UCG at Rubery - superb presentation/sound/stadium seats/just nice!!I will go and calm down and get a cappacino <img src="biggrin.gif" border="0">

My local multi-plex is also a cineworld Cinema and I have ALWAYS been disapointed when going there.

My first visit was to see RONIN and we actually had to watch 10 mins of the horse whisperer before Ronin started 30 mins late. Not too much of a problem except that the audience for the next showing came in and sat down as the film was now finishing late, b'cos of this the lights came back up.

Offer poor showings are seeing 20 mins of SNAKE EYES shown upside down. Numerous films with mono sound, some films with no sound and almost all with scratchy jumpy picture, even on day one

'My' Cineworld in Swindon is very good, far better than the Virgin multiplex.

It's always clean, the seats are comfortable and each theater has a DD plaque (if appropriate). From e-mailing Cineworld I also know which screens are DTS equipped, in any case the sonics have always been very good, though unsurprisingly not up to the standards of a decent home theater.

Admittedly my job allows me to go during the day and avoid joe public. The best viewing I had was during the first week of 'Fight Club', just me and 3 others in their biggest theater.

Yep, I've got to agree here. I went to my local Cine World in Falkirk and what a big dissapointment. When I was buying my setup for the house (albeit a budget setup) I was always advised to make sure that the sound does not differ from going from left or right to centre (choosing the same make for the fronts and centre). This is something that was not adheared to at Cineworld. I am also convinced that they do not have a sub connected. You always felt that there was some thunderous sounds missing.

the cineworl in wakfield is allso rather good . all the screens and cinemas are exactly the same size i think .

if you want to catch a film in dts you do have to go the first week or so though as they only have a couple of dts cinemas.

i go during the day aswell (and not during hollidays) so i avoid the crowds and it is usualy empty when i go .

the one thing that is a bit off putting is the oposit that has been said about the other ciema. the seats are too close to the cinema . the dist from screen to the first row is the isle and that is it .i would hate to get there with the cinema full and only seats on the front row left .i would end up with wiplash from jurking my head about

likewise, my local ugc is rather good, seats dont fold up, so plenty legroom, about a metre and no broken seats, also has thx screen with winged seats, unlimited popcorn, a bar <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> (although i am usually driving) an nibbles, albeit at £12 a time<br /> <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

the whole complex is surprisingly free of baseball cap wearing NED's.

What scren were you in att that cinema ordon, i went there to see the fast and the furious for free and it sounded extremely good (forgot me glasses though) maybe they were just showing it off to bring back paying punters though.

I agree entirely. I went to the Showcase Cinema in Walsall ages ago to watch Insurrection (told you it was ages ago) and the seats were possibly the most uncomfortable i've ever used. The UGC (UCG?) in Rubery is absolutley brilliant, superb sound, comfy seats and easy booking etc. There's a new Showcase opening in Dudley soon (12th October) so i may try that.

But, and it's a big one!

I'd rather turn it up at home and be able to drink a beer and have a fag whilst watching a good film than be charged £10 to go gold class, just for the 'honour' of having an overpriced drink! Plus, you can always pause it if you need to take a leak!
