Just finished watching the `Blue Planet` on BBC1,superb filming/sound/etc,no wonder this thing took 5 years to film, does anyone know if this is being released on dvd,the soundtrack was stunning and to have it in 5.1 would take it to a whole new level
Glad to discover somebody else who was as bowled over by this show as I was. I'd been awar of the series for some time thanks to a brief screening of some footage show at a BBC Worldwide press event back in June, but even this couldn't prepare me properly for the true majesty of what eventually made it into the series (and that's only after the first episode).
Sadly, I completely forgot about the show last night, and missed the first few minutes while I was finishing off Josie and the Pussycats.
On a positive note, BBC Worldwide does plan to release the show as its most impressive DVD release to date (decide for yourself just how difficult that might be) as a three-disc box set on 3 December for £34.99.
Of course, we were informed about this several months ago, and as we've seen countless times before, things are always subject to change. As soon as I've got some concrete info on a definate release date and transfer/soundtrack/extras information I'll post it on the board.
Oh yeah, be on the look out for Walking with Beasts as well, which we were also shown some footage from, and which also looks like a killer TV series.
I agree, a superb programme and the web site is also very good. Try the Blue Planet quiz!

"I DON'T BLOODY BELIEVE IT!" (Victor Meldrew style)
I "had" planned to watch this series in the cinema room, to get the full "WOW" effect!.
But I sold my projector much quicker than I had expected, and it looks like a long wait to get the new one(right price/spec etc).
So it was back to the old TV, but i kept thinking how good it would have been.
I think the DVD option will be taken, when it comes out.
It's funy how you only really miss something when it's gone.

(But yes, it sold full price - in cash in less than 12 hours)
Yes I totally agree!
It almost seems worth paying the licence money when we see programs like this from the BBC.
By the way has anyone any idea how many parts "Blue Planet" is or how many weeks it runs for?
Thanks

... some nonsense about a fish.

The music's good but them fishes are seriously ugly. If this is what happens when you don't get any daylight, I reckon I'll have to start getting out and about a bit more often, rather than being shut in a dark room watching movies.
this might sound a bit hypocritical but I think the BBC nature dept has gone a bit overboard on digital effects ; I reckon the episode I saw the other night was about 30% CGI ( most of it not great) rather than real photography.
I wasn't terribly keen on that ancient apocalypse series they did a few weeks either. Too much cheese not enough facts.

I agree 100%.
Surely the real images are stunning enough without bolting on some rather cheap looking CGI to make the whole thing more appealing to the mass market? ie making it look like a sci-fi show.
I also thought that the "beep" they used every time that angler-fish flashed it's thingy (ooo-errr missus) was a little bit lame also.
Yet another sign of the BBC "dumbing-down" it's "serious" output, I fear.
