S-Video signal from VHS?

Is it possible to get a s-video signal from my Panasonic NV-FJ620 VCR for improved picture performance by connecting it to my TV via a scart to s-video lead?

Would I see any improvements in picture quality by doing this?

My VCR is a standard VHS recorder and not a S-VHS recorder.

In the VCR`s manual it says that it doesn`t output RGB Scart signals, but it doesn`t say anything about S-video.

No. Only an S-VHS VCR will have S-Video output.

No, the picture would be no better quality and would be black & white only as an S-Video connection splits the chrominance & luminance (picture & colour info). Therefore the TV would ignore the colour info in the picture as it would be looking for it on a separate pin of the connector.
The only video output from a VHS VCR is composite.

Mark.

If you did obtain an SVHS machine, whilst it would produce an SVideo signal (even from a regular VHS tape) the PQ will not be any better than composite. It will only be markedly better with SVideo recorded tapes.
