hi all,

anyone know why my Pronto won't learn the commands to my VCR (panasonic NV-F75) ? I know
the VCR is an old one, but I thought the Pronto "Replaces any remote with IR"

Cheers all

Unless it's really unusual I can't see why it would not learn. Try moving the original remote closer. Or further away. or out of sunlight. or into sunlight! Just experiment.

Failing that, try www.remotecentral.com and look in the components section. They have a file for an NV-F55 and others which I bet wouldn't be too different...most manufacturers don't change IR codes from model to model.

There are some devices that the Pronto can't learn, as the IR frequency is different. A good example is the Ondigital box. Though I think some clever chappie over at RC.com found a way round that. Failing that - you are pointing the Pronto 'learning' eye at the Pannies remote, & not the emitting eye, aren't you? Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, but it's a common problem.

It won't learn IRDA stuff either. But few home entertainment stuff uses that.

Thanks for the advice guys but the Pronto is saying 'OK' to the Pannys commands with both Pronto edit and using the 'learn' on screen.
any more ideas ???

Cheers

Quote from Arthur.S
'There are some devices that the Pronto can't learn, as the IR frequency is different. A good example is the Ondigital box.'

Does this apply to all Ondigital boxes. I have no trouble controlling my Ondigital box (Pace) with the Marantz RC5000 'version' of the Pronto.

Hi Arthur, yeh although it takes some carefull aiming the Panny remote is working fine.
Just had a thought though.. there is a switch on both the RC and VCR with 1 and 2 on to enable different remotes to be used, could this be a problem??

Sounds like a strange one Taz. Have you tried selecting both options 1 & 2? How about the earlier suggestion to download the NV55 & NV55B CCFs from remotecentral & try them? Just seems odd that Panny would have one VCR using a different IR freqency. To be honest, I'm baffled. If I were you I'd post this at remotecentral. I'm sure you'll get an answer there. Even if it's bad news at least you'll know.
Let me know the result, I'm well curious!

Taz, One of the other suggestions that I was going to make was to use the Pronto's own learning system rather than PE, as PE for some reason is a bit unreliable for learning. But it looks like you've already done that. Is your original remote working OK?
Richard46, the best place to find that out is remotecentral.com If you own a Pronto/Marantz it's an essential site. Particularly if you use PE.
