View Full Version : Pronto won't learn other remotes

Well I got my Pronto 2mb version at the weekend, I read the instruction manual first then found out that the Pronto already controls my Arcam AVR100 and my Marantz DR4050 which was good. The problem is I just can't get it to learn any of my other remotes! I've got a Sony MDSJB930 MD recorder, and JVC VCR and a Toshiba tv. I have tried pointing the remote straight at the Pronto at all different distances and it just won't learn anything, I also tried my Marantz remote as this already worked from the Pronto and it wouldn't learn that either. Am I doing something completely stupid or is it not working as it should? I have to say I think the manual is appalling, it just says if 'fail' appears and you hear a beep then this means that is hasn't learnt the command, how about telling me why, I can't find anything in the manual that covers this.
Please tell me I'm doing something stupid and it does actually work!
I've never had any trouble teaching mine new IR codes. Things to check though...don't try it in direct sunlight, keep the two remotes about 6 inches apart. One last thing...you are pointing the original remote at the bottom end of the Pronto and not the top emitting end aren't you?!?!

Oh no, how stupid do I feel, I obvioulsy wasn't looking at the diagrams closely enough! I just assumed I would have to point the top of each remote towards each other because that's what I did with my other universal remote.
Thanks very much I'll try it again when I get home and hopefully I'll have more joy.
I feel like a complete imbecile now <img src="frown.gif" border="0">
