thanks for you info mr_wriggly but i tried Richers and they have'nt got any in stock, besides i'd like the Docking station, also i'm trying to get out of the habit of using richers as they are increasingly becoming NOT the cheapest place to get AV stuff.
Thanks

Taz had this exact same problem just a couple of weeks ago. In the end he bought his from Lets Automate incl. charger and it was done delivered and in use in his house within days. Don't dilly dally, that deal is as good as it gets for now.
Buy! Buy! Buy!

I'm also looking at buying a Pronto. Seems to me that the 2MB version for £150 from RicherSounds plus the docking station for £40 from Techtronics is the best combination available at the moment. Granted, RicherSounds are out of stock (and they didn't sound too hopeful of replenishing this week) but for this price I think it's worth the wait (anyone know exactly how long they have been out of stock ?)

If anyone knows of any better deals please let me know.

Save your money and don't bother with the docking station.

They are selling both versions for the same price, depending upon which they get delivered from the warehouse.
Think twice about the base station as I've read a number of reviews saying that battery life becomes cr@p after a few months.

Looks like they just dropped the price to £145.99 also. Sadly still no stock (or ETA).

RaveyJoker, go for www.letsautomate.com and forget Richer Sounds!

I have had my Pronto a good while now ( must be at least SIX months ) which was purchased along with the docking station.

Im not sure if the DS was a waste of money or not. I have only had to charge the until once ( after the initial charge ) and have no idea how this would compare with replacing batteries. Its given lots of use each day and is always used with the light.

At least the docking station guarantees somewere nice to keep the thing instead of behing the pillows

Letsautomate are great. I ordered some remote extenders one afternoon and they arrived the following morning, whereas Richer Sounds always have everything in stock as long as it's Sherwood.

I have had my Pronto now for over a year and have found there is no problem with the docking station. I think some people have had a problem because they leave the Pronto sitting permanently on the docking station. I check the battery levels periodically (especially if I am about to download a new configuration from my iMac) and if the battery level is low I pop it on the docking station until the little light starts blinking. The Pronto is simply the most useful gadget I have bought.

Enjoy

I'm also using a Pronto (actually a Marantz 5000) with the docking station.

The battery problem can be avoided if you leave the power cable unplugged from the docking station. It's something to do with the memory effect on NiCads. Recharging or topping up a nearly full battery doesn't do it much good.

Just plug in the cable when the battery needs charging rather than all the time. Then you can use your docking station whenever and where ever you want.

I'm also considering getting a Pronto because I've heard it's the only universal remote that will control my Arcam FMJ DV27. so if I don't get the docking station does it just mean that I have to use normal batteries? How much do they cost to replace and how long do they usually last? I probably won't get the docking station until later on.

I've just got a marantz and Im finding that I cannot always upload RC codes to the PC setup software.

I select Button Propeties then Learn I/R and either
1) It loads fine and Im happy
2) It loads but is corrupted
3) The PC cannot even see the R5000i

also How do you get this B****Y battery to charge
I've read an E-mail saying that you've got to Really push while lowering the batteryinto place while doing a mexican hat dance but I can't manage it.

Any Ideas

Tracey, I have a Pronto but no docking station. The batteries last at least six months (with extensive daily use) so I see no need whatsoever to get the docking station, especially as it seems to cause all sorts of problems. Personally I just wouldn't bother.

thanks Keith, I don't think I'll bother either, it's expensive enough as it is.

The recharge thing is documented, think its a firmware update needed. Saying that, mine wouldnt charge till i ran it flat. I have probs with the RC5000i software crashing my laptop, some cf files have to be decompiled then recompiled.

I spent hours making little gifs of dvd covers for my mega changer, was about 700k but wouldnt fit into the remote...

Its all too much effort

Phoned RicherSounds - they have "a few" in stock. £145.95 plus £5 P&P.

Finally got my pronto delivered. It's a great price for the 2MB version (£151 including P&P) so long as you're prepared to be patient (although it looks like they're back in stock too from their website).

I got mine from unbeatable.co.uk.

I phoned them and got them to pricematch with richer sounds. They waved the 7.99 next delivery charge and i got it for under £150. Thats the 2meg version that they are selling for £230. Just shows you the mark up on their items.
